What Is This study About

In this study we reqruit women presenting with symptoms of reproductive tract infections to donate a menstrual blood sample.

Who can join

Inclusion

  • Presenting with abnormal vaginal discharge, pelvis pain, suspected/confirmed bacterial vaginosis or chronic endometritis
  • Have regular menstrual cycles, occurring about 21-35 days
  • Healthy volunteers also welcome

Exclusion

  • Currently on vaginal or oral antibiotics
  • Pregnancy, miscarriage or abortion in the past 4 months

Why It Is Important

To asses the molecular biomarker profile of menstrual blood in participants presenting with symptoms of gynecological infections and compare findings with clinical diagnoses to enable faster, non-invasive detection.

How does it work

  • Recieve a menstrual cup and swabs by post
  • On day 1-2 of your period, wear the cup for 4-6 hours to collect your sample at home
  • Some participants may be asked to take swabs at home for confirmatory testing if not already diagnosed
  • Ship the sample to the clinic using prepaid postage.
